TEHRAN, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that Iran is committed to reaching a "fair and equitable" agreement with the United States as soon as possible, noting that the two countries have a "historic opportunity to reach an unprecedented agreement."
A. Araghchi published a corresponding statement on the social network X ahead of the third round of indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, scheduled for Thursday in Geneva.
“Building on the agreements reached in the previous round, Iran will resume negotiations with the United States in Geneva with the determination to reach a fair and equitable agreement as soon as possible,” he said.
"Our fundamental convictions are crystal clear: Iran will never develop nuclear weapons under any circumstances; at the same time, we Iranians will never renounce our right to utilize the benefits of peaceful nuclear technology for the benefit of our people," the foreign minister emphasized.
He said the parties have a "historic opportunity" to reach an unprecedented agreement that addresses mutual concerns and advances shared interests. He added that reaching an agreement is possible if diplomacy is prioritized.
The statement comes amid a recent buildup of the United States' military presence in the Middle East and after two rounds of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran on the Iranian nuclear program and the possible lifting of American sanctions. –0–
