This year's Chunyun (a special period of transportation operations during the mass internal migration of Chinese people before, during, and after the Spring Festival) is expected to set new records. Between February 2 and March 13, approximately 9.5 billion interregional passenger trips are projected to be made nationwide.

The agency noted that as of February 21—the middle of the 2026 Chunyun period—the volume of interregional passenger trips totaled 5.08 billion. Specifically, the volume of passenger trips by road totaled 4.76 billion, by rail—258 million, by water—19.99 million, and by air—47.51 million.

During this year's Spring Festival holiday, new energy vehicle (NEV) usage continued to rise. According to the National Energy Administration, from February 15 to 23, the total NEV charging volume on highways reached 149.77 million kWh. The average daily charging volume reached a record high of 16.64 million kWh, a 52 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
