HANGZHOU, July 29 (Xinhua) — Authorities in east China's Zhejiang Province on Tuesday raised the emergency response level for Typhoon Ko Mei, the eighth typhoon this year, to Level 3 from Level 4, the provincial emergency management department said.
Local authorities will strictly implement the early warning mechanism, strengthen patrolling and eliminating potential risks of natural disasters, strictly prevent mountain torrents and geological disasters, and relocate residents from dangerous areas in advance.
Typhoon Ko Mei's epicenter was located about 370 kilometers (230 miles) southeast of Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, at noon on Tuesday. The typhoon will move northwest at 15 to 20 kilometers (9 to 12 miles) per hour and increase in intensity. It is expected to make landfall in the coastal area between Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces on Wednesday afternoon.
The typhoon is expected to bring heavy rain to many parts of Zhejiang Province from Tuesday to Wednesday. The Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Service has already issued a sea storm warning. -0-
