Tbilisi, February 23 (Xinhua) — Amendments to the Law on Labor Migration will take effect in Georgia on March 1. According to these amendments, foreign citizens must obtain a special work permit to legally work, including remotely. This was announced on Monday by the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health, and Social Affairs.

"Work permits will be issued through the State Agency for Employment Promotion. The process is entirely electronic; the registration portal will open on March 1st, and obtaining a permit is free. Work permits will be issued for a specific position and to a specific employer for a period of one year," the ministry clarified.

Self-employed foreigners will be issued permits based on their area, sector, and type of business activity.

The agency warned that violations of the law will result in fines for employees and employers, including financial penalties for self-employed foreigners.

The amendments to the law were developed taking into account the recommendations of the European Union. –0–
