Geneva, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) — Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto, speaking at the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Monday, called on the United States to immediately release Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.

The United States military operation against Venezuela, during which N. Maduro and his wife were captured, took place on January 3.

In his speech, I. Gil Pinto also called on the countries concerned to lift all unilateral coercive measures imposed against Venezuela, emphasizing that they not only violate international law, but also infringe on the economic, social and cultural rights of the Venezuelan people.
