HARBIN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) — The world's largest ice and snow theme park, the Great World of Ice and Snow, located in Harbin, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, was closed on Saturday due to rising temperatures that caused the ice and snow landscapes to melt.
According to the organizers, the 27th festival closed earlier than usual for safety reasons and to ensure high-quality service for visitors amid the thaw.
Visitors who purchased tickets can request a full refund through the channel they used to place their order. Those who purchased tickets for the period February 20–28, 2026, will receive free admission to the park the next time it opens upon presentation of valid identification.
While the outdoor ice and snow festival park area bids farewell to this winter, the world's largest indoor ice and snow theme park, located within the Great World of Ice and Snow Arena in Harbin, opened its doors at noon on Sunday.
The Great World of Ice and Snow Park in Harbin is known as one of China's iconic attractions during the winter season.
China aims to boost its snow and ice economy as a new source of growth, targeting a sector worth 1.2 trillion yuan (about $174 billion) by 2027 and 1.5 trillion yuan by 2030, according to guidelines issued by the State Council. -0-
