BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) — China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Sunday extended a blue alert for a cold snap expected to hit the country.

According to the agency's forecast, from 2:00 PM Sunday to 8:00 AM Monday, temperatures will drop by 6-10 degrees Celsius in many regions of the country, including the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (north China), the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning (northeast China), and Jiangsu Province (east China). In some parts of Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces, temperatures could drop by more than 12 degrees Celsius.

The National Meteorological Center called on relevant agencies to prepare for the arrival of a cold front and strong winds, and to take measures to protect tropical crops and aquatic products in regions affected by the storm.

As a reminder, China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the highest level of danger, followed in descending order by orange, yellow, and blue. -0-
