NANJING, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) — Eight people were killed and two suffered minor burns on Sunday afternoon in an explosion and subsequent fire at a fireworks store in Dong'an Village, Donghai County, east China's Jiangsu Province, county authorities said.
The explosion occurred around 2:30 PM, caused by a village resident's improperly launched fireworks near a store. The resulting fire was extinguished by around 4:00 PM thanks to the prompt action of emergency responders.
Those responsible for the incident have been taken into custody. An investigation into the exact cause of the incident is currently underway, and measures are being taken to address the consequences.
