Tokyo, February 15 (Xinhua) — A 17-year-old boy was killed and two other youths were injured in a knife attack in central Osaka, western Japan, late Saturday evening, local media reported.

Around 11:55 p.m. local time, police received an emergency call reporting a knife attack on the first floor of a building in the busy Dotombori shopping district, Kyodo News reported, citing local police.

The young man suspected of carrying out an attack in the city centre, which is home to numerous eateries, has escaped and remains at large, the report said.

The deceased Nara Prefecture resident suffered stab wounds to the chest and other parts of his body and was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other 17-year-old boys were taken to hospital, police said.

The attacker, believed to be in his 20s, knew the three victims and they had an argument shortly before the attack, police said.
