Munich, Germany, February 15, Xinhua — US President Donald Trump's desire to annex Greenland has not changed, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated Saturday while speaking at the Munich Security Conference.

"I think the US President's desire is exactly the same. He takes this issue very seriously," she said.

"We must defend sovereign states. We must protect the right of peoples to self-determination. And the Greenlanders have made it very clear: they do not want to become Americans," M. Frederiksen emphasized.

According to media reports, a working group of the United States, Denmark and Greenland has been created to address the United States' "security concerns" in the Arctic.

"We now have a working group, and that's good. We'll try to find a solution… But, of course, there are red lines that must not be crossed. And we will stick to our strategy," M. Frederiksen said at another event on Friday.

Concerns about a possible US military takeover of Greenland have eased since Donald Trump ruled out the possibility of seizing the island by military force at talks in Davos, Switzerland last month.

Meanwhile, D. Trump also announced his decision not to carry out his threat to impose new tariffs on eight European countries over Greenland after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. –0–
