BERLIN, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) — An 81-year-old man was found dead and two others were injured in a fire that broke out in an apartment above a shopping mall in the central city of Kiel in northern Germany on Saturday evening.
The man was found during a rescue operation. Two others suffered mild smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene, local newspaper Kieler Nachrichten reported, citing Kiel police.
A police spokesperson said emergency services were alerted at around 8:10 PM local time (7:10 PM GMT) after residents heard cries for help and noticed smoke coming from an apartment. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire. The shopping center is part of a larger complex comprising shopping arcades, offices, and apartments.
The cause of the fire remains unclear and an investigation is underway. –0–
