Munich, Germany, February 15, Xinhua — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Saturday that China is willing to work with the Czech Republic to return bilateral relations to a healthy track of development and make up for lost time.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a meeting with Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka at the latter's request on the sidelines of the ongoing Munich Security Conference.
Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Sino-Czech strategic partnership, Wang Yi said that although the two countries have a long tradition of friendship, bilateral ties have undergone major changes in recent years that do not serve the interests of either side.
China appreciates the new Czech government's active commitment to improving relations with China, Wang Yi said, adding that Beijing is willing to jointly strive for an early return to the healthy and stable development of bilateral ties.
Wang Yi expressed hope that the Czech side will form a correct understanding of China, sincerely adhere to the one-China principle and respect the fundamental interests of the PRC.
He called on both sides to promote exchanges at all levels and in various fields, strengthen mutual understanding and trust, and lay a solid foundation for pragmatic cooperation.
P. Macinka called China a world power and said that the Czech Republic values the traditional friendship between the two nations.
Using the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership as an opportunity, the Czech Republic hopes to open a new chapter in bilateral relations, said P. Macinka.
He stressed that the Czech Republic is firmly committed to the one-China policy.
According to him, the Czech Republic recognizes the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing all of China and respects and supports China in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Czech side hopes to improve relations with China, resume high-level exchanges, and develop cooperation in areas such as economics and trade, tourism, and humanitarian exchanges, he added. –0–
