ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) — The 39th session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) opened on Saturday at the AU headquarters in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa.
The theme of the two-day summit coincides with the African Union's 2026 theme: "Ensuring sustainable access to water and safe sanitation to achieve Agenda 2063." Leaders of AU member states are participating in the event.
In addition to sustainable water management, summit participants also discussed a range of other topics, including peace and political stability, economic development, regional integration, and efforts to strengthen Africa's global standing and unity.
The opening session was attended by heads of state and government of African countries, as well as heads of continental and international organizations, including the Chairman of the AU Commission, Mahamoud Ali Yusuf, and the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres. –0–
