Almaty, February 13 (Xinhua) — The Confucius Institute at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) held a gala concert in Almaty on Friday to celebrate the Spring Festival (Chinese Spring Festival, the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year). More than 500 spectators from China and Kazakhstan attended the event.
Deng Hong, Director of the Confucius Institute on the Chinese side, noted that since its founding, the institute has held annual Spring Festival celebrations. This year's event has been significantly expanded compared to previous years. She hopes that the event's rich program will give more local residents the opportunity to experience the traditional Chinese New Year atmosphere, become acquainted with Chinese culture, and further promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.
According to her, the number of students at the Confucius Institute at KazNU continues to grow and currently exceeds 400 people per semester.
Students from the Confucius Institute and KazNU performed Chinese songs, lion dances, wushu skills, and traditional Chinese costumes. The program also included Kazakh national music and dance.
