BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) — China's installed solar and wind power capacity in 2025 increased 22 percent year-on-year to more than 430 million kW, a new all-time high, according to data released Thursday by the National Energy Administration.

Last year, the combined capacity of grid-connected solar and wind power plants reached 1.84 billion kW, or 47.3% of the country's total installed capacity. For the first time, solar and wind power surpassed thermal power in this regard.

Solar and wind power plants accounted for 22 percent of all electricity generated in the country in 2025.

Liu Deshun, chief engineer of the State Energy Administration, said that in 2026, as part of the country's efforts to accelerate the formation of a new type of energy system, the development of new areas such as energy storage will be encouraged.

By 2035, China will need to have a new energy system with a high proportion of new energy sources and improved systems for their consumption and regulation, according to guidelines published by the National Development and Reform Commission in November 2025. -0-
