Baku, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) — A concert to mark the upcoming Chinese New Year was held at the Baku Book Center in Azerbaijan's capital on Wednesday.

Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan, Ding Tao, noted that the Lunar New Year is the richest and most popular traditional holiday in China. The diplomat stated that the culture and spirit of the Spring Festival and the Azerbaijani Novruz are very similar. Both holidays aim to strengthen family ties and welcome spring, reflecting the two peoples' respect for nature, cherishing family ties, and striving for a happy life.

According to the diplomat, 2025 will be a year of further progress and fruitful results for China-Azerbaijan relations: the countries have established a comprehensive strategic partnership. Political mutual trust continues to deepen, trade and economic cooperation is steadily expanding, pragmatic cooperation is yielding numerous significant results, cultural exchanges are flourishing, and traditional friendship is acquiring new, contemporary significance, Ding Tao said.

The concert featured students and faculty from the Confucius Institute at the Azerbaijan University of Languages and other Azerbaijani educational institutions, as well as Chinese language enthusiasts. They sang songs in Chinese, danced Chinese folk dances in traditional costumes, and recited ancient and modern Chinese poetry.

Azerbaijani schoolgirl Sufi sang an aria from Peking Opera. She told Xinhua that she became interested in Peking Opera four years ago and began studying the art on her own. Now, the girl has gained some popularity and receives occasional invitations to perform at various events. Sufi even once sang in China.
