Moscow, February 11 (Xinhua) — The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has recorded a fourfold decrease in illegal logging in Russia from 2020 to 2025. This was stated by the head of the ministry, Alexander Kozlov, speaking in the State Duma on Wednesday, according to the Interfax news agency.
According to him, the volume of illegal logging has decreased from 1.1 million cubic meters in 2020 to 280,000 cubic meters in 2025. A. Kozlov also noted that by the end of 2025, the area of reforestation in Russia will have reached almost 1.4 million hectares, which is 1.4 times greater than the area where forests were cut down or destroyed.
According to the Global Forest Resources Assessment 2025 report prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Russia, with a forest area of 832 million hectares, occupies a leading position in the world in this indicator. –0–
