NANCHANG, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for accelerating the revival of old revolutionary base areas during an inspection tour of Ganzhou City in east China's Jiangxi Province from Monday to Tuesday.

Li Qiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, pointed out the need for comprehensive implementation of political support measures, development of competitive industries and sustainable improvement of people's well-being in these areas.

After visiting two villages, the Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China spoke with descendants of Red Army soldiers and families of old party members to learn about their income, employment, and access to healthcare, and also inquired with local personnel about measures to assist those in need.

The head of the Chinese government pointed out that local authorities must further strengthen the public service system, improve living conditions in villages, and take steps to bring tangible benefits to the population.

Li Qiang emphasized the role of science and technology as a driving force for development, calling for the development of industries with recognizable brands and a more pronounced spillover effect, and strengthening achievements in poverty alleviation to increase the internal driving forces of development.

The Premier also visited the Ganjiang Institute of Innovation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and several companies in the rare earth metals industry. According to Li Qiang, China should carry out rational and coordinated development of rare earth resources, optimize the industry structure, and improve the recycling system.
