JINAN, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) — Eleven people have been detained after a gold mine accident in east China's Shandong Province killed seven people, local authorities said Tuesday.

The mine hoist collapse incident at the Canzhuang mine in Zhaoyuan City occurred at around 8:50 a.m. on February 7.

According to city officials, the mining company failed to report the accident immediately after it occurred. The Zhaoyuan City Emergency Management Office only confirmed the incident on February 9 after receiving a tip.

Those detained include the director, chief engineer and other officials of the mine.
