SHIJIAZHUANG, July 29 (Xinhua) — North China's Hebei Province raised its emergency response mechanism from level three to level two at 9 p.m. Monday due to floods in the cities of Chengde, Tangshan, Langfang and Qinhuangdao.
Heavy rainfall has caused water levels in the Luanhe, Beiyunhe, Chaobaihe and Jiyunhe rivers to rise sharply, according to the provincial water conservancy department. Flooding is expected in some rivers.
The province is facing a serious flood control situation, with 15 counties under red flood warnings and six counties under orange flood warnings.
Local authorities are advised to strengthen real-time monitoring, advance warning of flood control measures, early evacuation of residents in case of natural disasters, and patrolling dams and levees of rivers and reservoirs.
Let us recall that China has adopted a four-level warning system for adverse weather conditions, in which the highest level of danger is indicated by red, followed by orange, yellow and blue. -0-
