JOHANNESBURG, July 28 (Xinhua) — A delegation of the Communist Party of China led by Liu Jianchao, director of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the Summit of Former Liberation Movements of Southern Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa, from July 25 to 27.
Speaking at the summit, Liu Jianchao stressed that political parties in China and Africa need to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, jointly promote modernization and safeguard the common interests of countries in the Global South.
On the sidelines of the summit, Liu Jianchao held meetings and exchanged views with African National Congress (ANC) Party Chairman and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula and ANC Treasurer-General Gwen Ramokgopa.
The head of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee also met with other leaders of African political parties, including Emmerson Mnangagwa, Chairman and First Secretary of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front and President of Zimbabwe; Daniel Chapu, Secretary-General of the Frelimo Party and President of Mozambique; Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Chairman of the South West Africa People's Organization and President of Namibia; Mizengo Pinda, member of the Central Committee of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi Party and former Prime Minister of Tanzania; and Mara Kioza, Vice-Chairman of the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola. –0–
