ALMATY, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) — The Xi'an Cultural Center in Almaty, Kazakhstan, hosted a celebration of the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year (Chunjie, or Spring Festival), whose symbol is the Fire Horse, on Thursday.
The event was organized by the cultural center in conjunction with the Association of Dungans of Kazakhstan (ADK) and the newspaper "Silk Road Today." It was attended by over 50 people, including cultural and public figures, academics, and representatives of the Dungan diaspora.
In his congratulatory speech, Khusei Daurov, head of the Association of Kazakh Culture and the New Silk Road International Academy Public Foundation, noted: "Kazakhstan is a young republic that is currently on the path to development. The Chinese have an old saying: 'Wade across a river by feeling for the stones.' I believe China's example and support are crucial for our country's development."
In his opening speech, Liu Zongjiang, Director of the Xi'an Cultural Center, noted that cultural exchanges foster mutual understanding between peoples. He explained that such events allow people to better understand each other's history, language, and traditions, and are held in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
