Moscow, February 5 (Xinhua) – Russia has returned 157 service members held in Ukrainian captivity, as well as three residents of Russia's Kursk region who were illegally held by Kyiv, as part of a prisoner exchange. The Russian Defense Ministry announced this on Thursday.

"On February 5, 157 Russian servicemen were returned from territory controlled by the Kyiv regime. In exchange, 157 prisoners of war of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were transferred. In addition, three Russian citizens, residents of the Kursk region, illegally detained by the Kyiv regime, were returned and will be returned home," the department said in a statement.

As the Russian Ministry of Defense notes, the United Arab Emirates and the United States provided humanitarian assistance in facilitating the return of Russian military personnel.
