Beijing, February 4 (Xinhua) — China congratulated Laura Fernández on her election as President of Costa Rica, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday.
He made the statement at a regular press conference, answering a question regarding the election of Laura Fernandez, the candidate of the ruling Sovereign People's Party, to the post of President of Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is an important country in Central America, Lin Jian noted. He added that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Costa Rica 18 years ago, bilateral ties have developed smoothly, with exchanges and cooperation in various fields steadily advancing, benefiting the peoples of both countries.
