Kyiv, February 3 (Xinhua) – Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine's energy sector on Tuesday night. First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on Telegram.

According to him, eight of Ukraine's 24 regions were shelled. The Russian army used ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. The main targets were thermal power plants (TPPs) and cogeneration plants (CHPs), which were operating solely to provide heating in cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro. Apartment buildings were also damaged.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that Russian troops launched a massive strike overnight against military-industrial complex facilities and energy facilities used for military purposes in response to terrorist attacks in Kyiv. According to the ministry, the strike's objectives were achieved.
