In 2026, specialists Moscow City Services Complex More than 5,500 elevators will be replaced as part of the regional program for capital repairs of apartment buildings. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Public Works. Petr Biryukov.
"A large-scale elevator upgrade program was developed and approved at the direction of the Moscow Mayor. During its implementation, more than 52,300 elevators were replaced in apartment buildings. This year, we'll be installing a total of over 5,500 elevators. The largest number of replacements are planned for the Southwest (816), South (764), and East (672) administrative districts," said Pyotr Biryukov.
Elevator service life is closely monitored, as this equipment is highly hazardous. It requires regular maintenance checks and timely replacement.
More than 2,400 buildings were overhauled in Moscow in 2025.
Since 2018, elevators in buildings managed by the regional operator have been replaced strictly in the year their 25-year service life expires, without any additional extensions. Specialists dismantle the old equipment and install new elevators. If a building has several elevators, they are replaced one at a time to ensure residents experience minimal inconvenience. The equipment used is domestically produced and fully meets modern safety and comfort requirements.
