Cairo, February 1 (Xinhua) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty and his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, emphasized the importance of de-escalating the situation in the region and opposed the use of force amid rising regional tensions, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released on Sunday.

As noted in the statement, the heads of the two countries' foreign ministries held a telephone conversation on Saturday, during which they emphasized "the priority of political and negotiated solutions, rejecting the logic of escalation and the use of force."

During the conversation, the parties discussed recent developments related to the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and noted the critical importance of implementing the second phase of the US peace plan for the Palestinian enclave. According to the statement, the diplomats paid close attention to the developing situation in Gaza and the West Bank amid "daily violations by Israel."

The Egyptian and Saudi foreign ministers also addressed the situation in Sudan, where the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Intervention Force has led to what the UN calls one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.

In this regard, both diplomats called for the conclusion of a “humanitarian truce as a prerequisite for a comprehensive ceasefire and the launch of an inclusive political process.” –0–
