Washington, January 30 (Xinhua) — The White House privately gave Iran a deadline for reaching an agreement, but declined to publicly disclose the timeframe, US President Donald Trump said on Friday.
“Only they [the Iranians] know for sure,” Trump said, answering a question from reporters at the White House about whether Iran had been given a deadline to reach a deal with the United States.
When asked if the Pentagon had a timetable for reducing the US military presence in the Middle East, Trump replied: "We'll see how it goes. They need somewhere to be based, so they could be near Iran."
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Friday that Tehran consistently seeks engagement and dialogue to resolve disputes and does not want war. He also criticized Western countries, noting that their actions demonstrate a lack of practical commitment to diplomacy and international law, despite their statements.
