Beijing, January 30 (Xinhua) — Trade and economic cooperation documents signed recently by China and the United Kingdom aim to further deepen bilateral trade and economic ties by coordinating efforts to trade goods and services and develop trade and economic mechanisms, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Friday.

As the department's official representative indicated, during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's ongoing visit to China, the two countries signed four documents on economic and trade cooperation.

The official noted that by signing a memorandum of understanding on export cooperation with China, the UK became the first country to sign such a document with China since the Chinese side launched an initiative designed to provide global trading partners with access to its vast domestic market.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce also clarified that, within the framework of this memorandum, the parties will establish a cooperation mechanism for exports to China, jointly explore the export potential of high-quality British goods and services for the Chinese market, strengthen information exchange, organize promotional activities, and further simplify trade procedures in order to jointly promote the healthy development of Sino-British trade.

According to the official, through the signing of two other documents, namely the memorandum on launching a joint feasibility study on the China-UK agreement on trade in services and the memorandum on establishing a bilateral partnership in the services sector, the two sides will give full play to their complementarities and respective advantages in the services sector to deepen cooperation in the creative industries, professional services, financial services, as well as medical and health care.

The official also noted that the memorandum on strengthening the work of the China-UK Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Affairs aims to enhance the role of this mechanism as a platform for bilateral dialogue on economic and trade policy issues, as well as the promotion of trade and investment.

According to the department, the above-mentioned document will facilitate interaction between the commission and the China-Britain Business Council, strengthen dialogue between the governments and business circles of the two countries, facilitate the resolution of problems and requests of enterprises of both sides, and contribute to the deepening of China-Britain economic and trade relations.
