Beijing, January 30 (Xinhua) — China will improve its monitoring of consumer market dynamics amid efforts to strengthen its domestic market. This was announced at the National Statistical Conference, which concluded on Thursday.
At the meeting, it was reported that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of China promised to strengthen statistical monitoring of new consumption models, business forms, and changes in consumption structure, adding that efforts will include improving the efficiency of measuring the retail turnover of regional services and improving the measurement of the retail turnover of online services.
The State Statistical Service also announced that it will improve its data evaluation and optimize methods for measuring the overall turnover of goods and services. Particular attention will be paid to improving statistical monitoring of the service consumption market to more objectively and accurately reflect market trends.
Expanding domestic demand will be a key priority for China's economic work in 2026, according to the Central Economic Work Conference held in December 2025, which also outlined plans for campaigns to stimulate consumption and increase incomes for urban and rural residents.
