WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he had talks with Iranian leaders and plans to continue them.

"There have been, and I plan to have them," Trump said when asked if he had had any conversations with Iran in the past few days. He did not specify who he had spoken to.

“We have a lot of very large, very powerful ships sailing to Iran right now, and it would be great if we didn’t have to use them,” the White House chief added.

"I told them two things. First, nothing nuclear. And second, stop killing protesters," Trump said.

As a reminder, on Wednesday he announced that a "massive armada" led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln was heading to Iran, exceeding the size of the group of ships sent to Venezuela. The president warned that Tehran has little time left to reach an agreement with Washington.
