YANGON, January 28 (Xinhua) — The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) has won a majority of seats in the House of Representatives (lower house of parliament) of Myanmar, according to data released Wednesday by the Union Election Commission.

According to the electoral commission, the Union Solidarity and Development Party won 231 of the 263 seats. The Shan People's Democratic Party won seven seats, and the Mon Unity Party and the Pao National Organization each won five seats. The remaining seats were distributed among nine other political parties.

Elections to the Assembly of People's Representatives were held in 263 of the country's 330 villages, with each village representing one electoral district in which one deputy was elected.

The general elections in Myanmar were held in three stages: the first stage took place on December 28 last year, the second on January 11 this year, and the final stage on January 25. –0–
