URUMQI, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) — Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, rich in wind and photovoltaic resources, has built six new energy bases with a capacity of 10 million kW, increasing the region's wind and photovoltaic capacity to 167 million kW, bringing the share of alternative energy in the region's total installed capacity to 64 percent.

This achievement was highlighted in the government's work report, which was read during the regional "two sessions", highlighting XUAR's commitment to green development.

Among the six, the Hami base stands out for its vast 51,600 square kilometer wind farm area and 3,170 to 3,380 hours of sunshine per year, making it one of the sunniest locations in China.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), Hami's renewable energy capacity increased by 23.24 million kW, making it the leading city in Xinjiang with a total capacity exceeding 37 million kW.

The growth of new energy capacity was accompanied by an increase in clean energy consumption. In 2025, green electricity supplies in Xinjiang reached 43.43 billion kWh, a 230 percent increase over the previous year and a record high. This figure equates to a reduction in conventional coal combustion of 13.13 million tons and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 35.47 million tons.
