BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) — China, as host of the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting, will organize the inaugural APEC Senior Officials' Meeting and related sessions in Guangzhou from Feb. 1 to 10, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun announced Wednesday.
At the latest departmental press conference, the diplomat noted that this would be the first official event within the framework of the APEC Year of China.
As Guo Jiakun noted, the APEC Senior Officials' Meeting serves as the main channel for preparing the outcomes of the informal APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and is held four to five times a year.
The upcoming meeting in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, southern China, will focus on the main theme of "Building an Asia-Pacific Community of Shared Prosperity" and three priority areas: openness, innovation, and cooperation. The meeting will aim to fully launch cooperation across various sectors and mechanisms and conduct in-depth discussions on specific areas of cooperation to accumulate results by the informal leaders' meeting scheduled for November, Guo Jiakun said.
More than 50 events will be held in parallel, with an estimated 1,000 participants, Guo Jiakun said, inviting media representatives to actively follow and cover the upcoming events. -0-
