URUMQI, January 28 (Xinhua) — Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region welcomed more tourists in 2025 than the previous year. Tourist arrivals totaled 323 million, with tourists spending 370 billion yuan (approximately $53 billion) on trips. Both figures increased year-on-year by 8 percent and 8.4 percent, respectively. This was announced at the ongoing regional "two sessions."
According to plans for 2026 outlined in the regional government's work report, Xinjiang will prioritize the development of tourism sectors such as winter sports, specialized tours, and border tourism. Efforts will be stepped up to develop top-tier AAAAA tourism attractions.
The document also emphasizes the importance of implementing digital technologies to develop the cultural and tourism industries, improve the quality of tourism services, and strengthen market regulation. Tourism is expected to remain a key driver of job creation and promote interaction and exchanges among people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang.
