Beijing, January 28 (Xinhua) — In 2025, 697 million people were screened and cleared at Chinese checkpoints entering and exiting the country, a 14.2 percent increase compared to the entire 2024, reaching a new all-time high. This is according to data released Wednesday at a press conference by the National Administration of Migration Affairs (NAM).

According to the agency, during the reporting period, the number of border crossings through Chinese checkpoints by foreign citizens increased by 26.4 percent year-on-year to 82 million. In particular, nearly 30.1 million foreign citizens entered the country under the visa-free regime, or 73.1 percent of the total number of border crossings by foreign citizens entering China, representing a 49.5 percent increase from the previous year.

Furthermore, last year, residents of mainland China crossed the border in both directions 335 million times, while residents of the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, as well as Taiwan Island, entered and exited the country's border 279 million times. Both figures increased year-on-year by 15.1 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively, GUM reported.

China currently implements a visa-free entry policy for citizens of 76 countries. Additionally, travelers from 55 countries can enjoy 240-hour visa-free transit at 65 checkpoints in the country. -0-
