Vladivostok, January 28 (Xinhua) — A car carrying tourists overturned on the ice of Lake Baikal on Wednesday, killing a Chinese tourist.

The Chinese Consulate General in Irkutsk confirmed that a 75-year-old Chinese tourist died in the accident, and four other Chinese tourists sustained minor injuries. Upon receiving the report, the Consulate General immediately activated its emergency response plan, contacting the guide involved in the accident, the Chinese tourists, and local rescuers.

The actions of volunteers were coordinated and they quickly arrived at the scene, and rescuers were instructed to quickly transport the victims to a medical center for assistance.

The victims have now been transferred to the Olkhon District Central Hospital, and the Consulate General is providing assistance in dealing with the aftermath of the accident. –0–
