New Delhi, January 28 (Xinhua) — Five people, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and two pilots of the western Indian state of Maharashtra, were killed in a plane crash on Wednesday, local officials said.

A small Learjet 45 aircraft, operated by private company VSR Aviation, crashed while attempting to land at Baramati Airport in Pune district, about 249 km southeast of Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra state.

According to the initial report from the General Administration of Civil Aviation, no one on board survived. The other two fatalities were a personal security guard and a flight attendant.

The plane lost control while landing at Baramati Airport. After making an emergency landing, the aircraft immediately caught fire.

Television footage showed police, emergency services and other officials arriving at the scene.
