The Hague, January 27 (Xinhua) — The Dutch political party Democrats 66 and its partners, the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VPFD) and the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), have reached a coalition agreement to form a minority government, local television channel NOS reported on Tuesday.
The details of the deal have not yet been made public. The agreement must be approved by parliamentary factions. Its general provisions are expected to be presented on Friday.
The new minority cabinet will fall significantly short of a majority in both houses of parliament. The three parties together hold 66 seats in the House of Representatives, 10 seats short of a majority, and are 16 seats short of a majority in the Senate.
A total of 27 parties took part in the Dutch parliamentary elections last October, with 15 winning seats in the House of Representatives. Democrats 66 and the Party for Freedom each won 26 seats, followed by the NPSD with 22 seats and the Green Left-Labour Alliance with 20 seats. The Christian Democratic Appeal and JA21 won 18 and nine seats, respectively.
