Baku, January 27 /Xinhua/ — The State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan reported on Tuesday that a terrorist attack on a foreign embassy in the country's capital was prevented.

According to the agency, as a result of investigative measures, reasonable suspicions arose regarding three Azerbaijani citizens, who, as the investigation established, were preparing an attack on the diplomatic mission in Baku motivated by religious hatred.

Intelligence agencies established that the suspects had ties to the group "Vilayat Khorasan," which is part of the terrorist organization ISIS.

The perpetrators had prepared items they intended to use as weapons in advance for the attack. State Security Service officers conducted an operation to detain them as they were heading toward the embassy building.

The State Security Service emphasized that the investigation into the case is ongoing, but the agency did not disclose which country's embassy the suspects planned to attack.
