BUDAPEST, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Monday that his country will take diplomatic steps following offensive and threatening remarks by Ukrainian political leaders against Hungary and its government.

In a video posted on social media, Orbán stated that Hungary's national security services had concluded that recent statements by Ukrainian officials were part of an attempt to interfere in the country's parliamentary elections scheduled for April. He said he had instructed Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to summon the Ukrainian ambassador.

Already tense relations between the two countries worsened after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made comments at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week that were perceived as referring to V. Orban.

V. Zelensky said that "every Viktor who lives at Europe's expense but at the same time trades its interests deserves a slap on the wrist," adding that "if he feels comfortable in Moscow, that doesn't mean we should allow European capitals to turn into little Moscows." Ukraine rejected this accusation.
