BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) — Ding Xuexiang, head of China's Central Science and Technology Commission, called on Monday for relentless efforts to achieve greater self-sufficiency and strengthen capacity in science and technology, and ensure the stability and sustainability of scientific and technological progress.

Ding Xuexiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the announcement Monday while delivering a speech at the National Conference on Science and Technology Work.

He noted that China's scientific and technological development achieved significant results during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). Scientific and technological innovation comprehensively promoted high-quality development and played a strategic supporting role in advancing Chinese-style modernization.

Ding Xuexiang pointed out the need to strengthen fundamental research and enhance China's self-sufficiency in providing basic conditions for scientific research.

A member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee called for utilizing the country's strategic scientific and technological capabilities, deepening international scientific and technological cooperation, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the national innovation system.

Ding Xuexiang emphasized the importance of deepening the integration of scientific, technological and industrial innovation, strengthening the leading role of enterprises in innovation activities, accelerating the formation of a system for financing the scientific and technological sphere, and improving the management of the development of new-quality productive forces.
