St. Petersburg, January 26 (Xinhua) — Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Malaysia's Supreme Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar in St. Petersburg on Monday.

Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar arrived in Russia on Sunday for a private visit. According to the Russian presidential press service, the two leaders met at the State Hermitage Museum. Museum Director Mikhail Piotrovsky gave them a tour and explained the museum's main exhibits.

Earlier, the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia met with the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov.

During the meeting, A. Beglov noted the city's interest in partnering with Malaysia and invited representatives from that country to participate in major international forums held in St. Petersburg. He stated that St. Petersburg is ready to develop bilateral cooperation in high-tech areas, including energy, biotechnology, medicine, information technology, and telecommunications, as well as in education.
