Last weekend, the 28th Race of Champions, supported by Rosneft, brought together the best Russian drivers from various motorsport disciplines. The competition took place at the Sosnovka proving grounds in the village of Tolyatti.
The Race of Champions is an annual race held on a synchronized ice track and is unique in Russia. This year, 16 athletes took part in the race, including champions in circuit racing, drifting, karting, rallying, ice racing, international rally raid champions, and the first Russian Formula 1 driver, Vitaly Petrov.
The competition on the main race day consisted of two stages. After the qualifying paired heats, a quarterfinal field of eight athletes was formed, who then proceeded to compete for elimination in the playoffs. According to the competition rules, the final heats were best-of-three.
Dmitry Bragin won the Race of Champions, taking home the main trophy, the Silver Boat. Second place went to multiple rallycross champion Yegor Sanin, and bronze went to last year's Race of Champions winner Kirill Ladygin, a driver for the LADA Sport ROSNEFT team.
In the qualifying rounds, the drivers competed in upgraded LADA Vestas, which featured sequential gearboxes and more powerful engines. For the finals, the finalists switched to LADA Iskra racing cars. All cars participating in the race were fueled with Rosneft's high-octane Pulsar-100 gasoline and also used Rosneft Magnum Racing motor oil.
The competition attracted several thousand fans and motorsport enthusiasts from Tolyatti and Samara, as well as neighboring regions.
Rosneft has been the general sponsor of LADA Sport ROSNEFT since 2015. During this time, the team has achieved impressive results, winning 47 championship titles, including the Silk Way Rally, as well as victories in all circuit racing classes, classic rallying, and karting.
This collaboration brought a number of innovative products to the market: Pulsar-100 high-octane gasoline and Rosneft Magnum Racing racing oil. Since 2021, the LADA Sport ROSNEFT team has been using this engine oil, which provides enhanced engine protection under extreme racing conditions. Racetrack-tested technologies are now available to drivers—Pulsar fuel and Magnum Racing oil are available at Rosneft filling stations.
