LHASA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — Southwest China's Xijiang Autonomous Region welcomed over 70.73 million tourists in 2025, up 10.71 percent year on year, while the number of foreign tourists increased by 36.5 percent to 437,400.

This year also saw a significant expansion of Xizang's tourism products. Cultural output rose to 15.01 billion yuan (approximately $2.15 billion), an increase of 35.29 percent, while total tourism revenue reached 81.68 billion yuan, an increase of 9.51 percent.

This sustainable development is supported by ongoing efforts to preserve and utilize the region's cultural resources. During the fourth national cultural relics census, 3,346 cultural heritage sites were identified in Xizang, placing the region among the leaders in terms of new discoveries.

Since the launch of the regional tourism resource survey in 2023, over 31,000 new tourism resources have been catalogued in Xizang. Traditional folk events such as Guozhuang dance, Tibetan dance, and oxhide boat races are gaining popularity, attracting tourists seeking to experience local culture.

To preserve and promote their cultural heritage, including ancient architecture, cultural relics, and intangible cultural heritage, regional authorities actively use digital platforms. These platforms, some dedicated to iconic sites such as the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Potala Palace, have recorded over 2.5 million visits. -0-
