BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — Beijing recorded its best air quality on record, thanks in large part to the rapid adoption of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and the continued promotion of clean electricity, the Chinese capital's annual government work report said Sunday.

Beijing has made remarkable achievements in building a beautiful and environmentally friendly city by 2025, as the number of NEVs in operation exceeded 1.3 million, the share of green electricity in the city's total electricity consumption reached 36 percent, and the proportion of days with good air quality exceeded 80 percent for the first time. This was announced by Beijing Mayor Yin Yong in his report at the annual session of the city's People's Congress (NPC).

The average annual concentration of particulate matter (PM2.5), a key indicator of air pollution, fell to 27 micrograms per cubic meter in 2025. This figure was not only 11.5 percent lower than in 2024, but also the lowest level since monitoring began, the report notes.

Beijing's annual NEV production capacity is nearly 700,000 units. Yin Yong noted that the city plans to build 30,000 new public charging stations by 2026, significantly expanding the supporting infrastructure.
