BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) — The China-Russia Open Speed Skating Tournament kicked off Saturday in Dongning, Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, with more than 350 athletes from China and Russia taking part.
According to information published on the Zhongguo Xinwenwang online portal, the tournament not only created a platform for competition and exchange of experience between Chinese and Russian athletes, but also, through winter sports, gave a powerful impetus to the integrated development of the economy, trade, culture, and tourism in the border regions.
In recent years, Dongning, a city on the border between China and Russia, has continued to make efforts to develop ice and snow sports and promote cross-border exchanges, turning ice and snow resources into advantages for local development.
The tournament is being held as part of the first Heilongjiang Provincial Ice and Snow Sports Super League.
