CHANGCHUN, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) — The Northeast Asia Ice and Snow Rally kicked off Friday in Tumen, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, northeast China's Jilin Province, with more than 80 drivers from 42 Chinese and foreign teams taking part.
The total race distance is approximately 126 km and includes 11 special stages. The route covers a variety of surfaces, including snow and ice, mixed mountain asphalt, and urban asphalt.
"The completely natural terrain, including snow, ice, and forest, allows us to demonstrate our full potential. At the same time, the tracks are fraught with many surprises and enormous challenges—that's the charm of rallying," said Pan Dong, a driver from Wuhan, China.
According to Tumen City Party Secretary Sun Dongsheng, holding the competition is part of Jilin Province's new efforts to implement the "Ice and Snow Silk Road" strategy at the border region level, and serves as an important incentive for Tumen to become a "famous city of ice and snow automobile and motorcycle sports in Northeast Asia."
The event was jointly organized by the Jilin Provincial Sports and Fitness Administration and the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Region People's Government. -0-
