Tbilisi, January 23 (Xinhua) — Georgian Railways plays a central role in the development of the Middle Corridor transport and logistics route, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani stated on Friday.
According to her, a railway modernization project, which included large-scale infrastructure work, was completed and commissioned last December. The Georgian government has decided to purchase new locomotives in 2026-2027 and gradually upgrade the railway fleet. As the Deputy Minister noted, Georgian Railways has already developed a specific plan to prepare for the expected increase in freight traffic along the Middle Corridor in 2028-2029.
Up to 1 billion lari (approximately 371.8 million US dollars) has been invested in modernizing the railway infrastructure, the deputy minister reported. –0–
