BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) — The number of valid invention patents issued in mainland China reached 5.32 million by the end of last year, the State Intellectual Property Administration said Friday.

Last year, a total of 972,000 patents were issued in the continental part of the country. The average patent review time fell to 15 months.

By 2025, the number of patents for valuable inventions per 10,000 people reached 16, the department noted.

Over the past year, more than 4.2 million trademarks were registered in mainland China. This brings the total number of active registered trademarks to over 49.87 million by the end of 2025.

According to the State Administration, the value of Chinese brands included in the top 5000 global brands was $1.81 trillion, ranking China second in the world.
